Woo Myung and Maum Meditation

Teacher Woo Myung founded Maum Meditation to solely teach people Truth and make them become Truth. This is the excerpt from <The Way To Become a Person In Heaven While Living>

Maum Meditation teaches how to cleanse falseness – the pictures of past memories – which we have accumulated through our self-centered experiences. It teaches us that we are the false minded illusions and that our bodies and minds must be cleansed. Then it teaches us to cleanse the universe in our delusional minds so that we can know and become Truth.

From start to finish, Maum Meditation is a place that focuses only on cleansing oneself. When one cleanses his self and everything in the universe, only the pure universe, Truth remains. Maum Meditation is the place, where one is reborn as the body and mind of the pure universe and goes to heaven where life and death are one; it is the place to deny and cleanse the self; it is the place to cleanse the self because you can only be reborn as Truth when you are cleansed.

Level 1: Throwing away remembered thoughts

Level 2: Throwing away images of myself, images of human relationships, and myself

Level 3: Throwing away my body

Level 4: Throwing away my body and the universe

Level 5: Throwing away my body and the universe

Level 6: Self disappears by subtraction and becomes the Universe

Level 7: Throwing away the illusionary world of pictures and myself living inside that world

When you reflect upon yourself, you will see how self-centered and hypocritical you really are. When you truly throw away your self-centered and hypocritical self, you will be Truth, and there will be the world of Truth. Maum Meditation is the place to cleanse both body and mind to become Truth.

As it is cleansed of falseness, your mind becomes clear and true, and thus, it becomes more comfortable. Because all illnesses are caused by the mind, there are many cases where people are cured from their illnesses and become healthier after practicing Maum Mediation. Maum Meditation exists in order to make human completion possible for everyone. Anyone can become a saint, know the flow of nature, and go to the forever-living heaven where life and death are one while living.

Maum Meditation is the place where the ultimate purpose of mankind’s existence can be achieved.

Home

At home, the flowers blooms as they always do.
It seems home is the best place in the world,
because those who leave come back as corpses.
If someone does not come back home,
it is because he is busy trying to make
a living in a foreign land,
and if he is busy, it means he finds it a struggle
to earn enough to live.
Living is just a phase of human life,
but life simply passes by without a purpose.

It is the same way that life exists in time,
home is thought to be where your body was born.
People live in foreign lands
holding onto home in their hearts,
but because of their greed
no one, not the living or the dead,
knows the true meaning of home.
The place before one was created is his true home,
but people live with the mistaken belief
that home is the place their bodies were born.

The true home exists silently
but people long for their relationships of the past
while holding onto them only in their minds,
so their home is only a home.
Home is not where your body was born;
man builds his home in his own empty sky
and longs for home.

When you become Truth

When you become Truth,

There is no mind of self,

When everybody returns to the original mind of Truth

This world will become one

Because everybody is of one mind

Their minds do not change

They are wisdom itself, they live with one mind

There is no separation of ‘you’ and ‘me’

There is no ‘your country,’ ‘my country’

There is no ‘your religion,’ ‘my religion’

Everybody will go to heaven while living

Everybody will live the life of heaven

They will do everything, following nature’s law

They will do everything with trueness

And will thus have a perfect plan

They will live following that perfect plan

All humans will be complete

All will live for others with one mind

This is the beautiful poem written by Woo Myung.

My Will

Deep in the night,

A nameless bird sings sadly from a tree.

Long ago, while I was studying

In a mountain temple, steeped in solitude,

The hoots of an owl and the gurgle of a flowing stream

Would sound throughout the night.

Those lonely times of solitude have changed to longing.

There was a time when there were countless thoughts boiled over in my mind;

A time when I was chased by my circumstances

But did not achieve anything.

Now with hindsight, I can see it is fortunate

I did not fulfill ay of my big ideals.

I was not a great person,

And I lived ridiculing myself

Disliking, ignoring and cursing myself;

Telling myself that I was the one who was wrong.

Perhaps this is why I did not have much to repent.

I was not great in any way

So I was humble and I worked hard.

As a result, I lived well

Compared to the days of scarcity in my childhood.

Of the years that silently passed, during the time

When I first started teaching Truth in Mount Gaya,

I again heard the cries of that owl every night;

The owl that had struck a chord in my lonely heart.

Everyone who sought me out each came to me

With fifty thousand thoughts,

As they shed these fifty thousand agonies,

They showed the forms of their minds

In fifty thousand different ways.

Only then did I realize that man is uglier, dirtier,

And infinitely more vile than I was.

When I had scolded myself,

Telling myself that I was dirty, ugly,

And the worst person in the world,

It had been an unknowing repentance.

With the title of dō-in, I awaken people.

I cannot describe the joy I felt

When after many nights meditating together till dawn,

Those countless people, who had laughed and cried

Within their fifty thousand agonies, enlightened to the Truth.

I had also felt happy when I escaped from the grave

And came out into the world,

But I had more joy in their enlightenment than I had in my own,

Which was boundless each time a person’s consciousness

Changed from falseness to Truth.

It was the first time in the world

People were truly becoming enlightened,

And as the founder,

The fact that people were actually achieving Truth,

Was tremendously moving.

People’s fifty thousand agonies decreased

As they moved up through the levels,

Inside the framework of their selves,

Which is something man grimly holds onto until the end.

Those whose false selves tried to enlighten to the Truth,

Were unable to ignore their false selves or progress further

And ultimately did not achieve Truth.

However those who were like bears and did not give up,

Those who were constant and had thankful hearts

Are still meditating and are close to completion.

Time flew by silently,

And since then twelve, thirteen years have passed.

I started teaching Truth in my mid-forties,

But now my hair has turned grey

And my youth and energy have vanished.

I entering into old age;

I am becoming a wrinkled grandpa,

With grey hair and ground-down teeth.

My body does not move as I will it to, as it did in my youth.

The world is wide,

But I am living a human life with only seventy to eighty years,

And there is so much left to do in the world.

So regardless of whether it is day or night,

All my time is dedicated to teaching people Truth.

My mind is busy, so busy, with the constant thought

That people all over the world must be awakened;

And I am waiting and waiting,

For the day when all people have become complete,

And all people are able to live.

It is my hope that before I die,

Truth will be spread all over the world

And everyone will be resurrected as Truth.

I pity people who live and die without meaning or purpose;

It is heartbreaking.

It is my will to work hard

So that even one more person may live.
