LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
On May 3rd, the 2014 International Conference on Human Completion on the topic of ‘Maum Meditation: Happiness, Peace, and Coexistence’ was held with great success.
The conference was hosted by the Academic Society for Human Completion and supported by the Center for Korean Studies, UCLA in order to discuss how to realize the true coexistence of mankind in a practical way. The conference was of great interest to academic societies and scholars to such an extent as to attract hundreds of people at UCLA.
At the event, leading scholars including Professor Michael Furlong, world-renowned specialist in school psychology and Dr. Sam Himelstein, Director of Programs and Research at Mind Body Awareness, and young and outstanding Korean scientists gathered for an in-depth discussion on the topic.
The research on the theoretical basis and effectiveness for mind subtraction, which is emerging as one of the key global issues, was a source of significant interest.
One of the research projects was ‘Breast Cancer Survivor’s Psychological Well-Being’ conducted by Dr. Mi Ra Yun (PhD, Researcher, Research Institute of Nursing Science, Seoul National University) and the study was conducted at Asan Medical Center in Seoul targeting breast cancer survivors. This research established the fact that mind subtraction can show outstanding efficacy for cancer survivors to improve the qualities of their lives such as psychological stability, positive emotions, and satisfaction.
Also, the study conducted by Dr. Namin Shin (PhD, Professor, Department of Education, Dongguk University, Korea) showed the positive effects of Maum Meditation on depression, social nervousness, and aggression. The study was based on the effect of Maum Meditation on stress and drop of cortisol hormone of elementary school students. This proposes a new method for personality education through inner peace and happiness for elementary school students, which garnered great attention.
Professor Furlong and Dr. Himelstein expressed surprise to the personality education which Maum Meditation has implemented in school fields and its results in the training of mind and body of the youths. Dr. Himelstein showed deep interests in the method of Maum Meditation verified through the results of scientific and empirical studies.
Furthermore, the studies received congratulations from Dr. Charles Mercieca (President, International Association of Educators for World Peace) and Professor Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (Claremont Graduate University) who is a leading researcher on Positive Psychology and best known as an architect of the flow model. In 2002, IAEWP awarded the founder of Maum Meditation, Woo Myung the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Prize for his contributions to the recovery of the original nature as well as reconciliation and peace. Dr. Charles Mercieca said “Once we achieve a permanent peace we can give it to others“, and highly appreciated the significance and accomplishment of Maum Meditation which has contributed to human internal introspection and the recovery of the original nature.
Michael Treacy, the director of Las Vegas Maum Meditation Center, gave a special lecture ‘Human Completion for Happiness, Peace, and Coexistence’ and made a great appeal to the audience.
In addition, the Academic Society invited LA Maum Meditation Center to host a workshop where people could try the meditation hands-on. The attendees of the conference showed deep interest to the mind subtraction method.
Another highlight of the conference was the stunning Youth Art Exhibition, which was comprised of a collection of pieces submitted from children from thirty five countries. The art exhibition was titled, ‘Youths, Imagine a Beautiful World’ and it involved continuous visits with the evaluation of ‘healing drawings’.
The Academic Society, founded in 2008, has hosted conferences twice a year, achieving more than expected through opening a new prospect in the field of personality education. On the basis of this, the Academic Society held the first international conference at Seoul National University on the topic of ‘Happiness, Ask the Mind’ under the sponsorship of Korean ministry of education last year.
Today, Maum Meditation is practiced at more than 350 centers from 40 countries. Founded in 1996, Maum Meditation is a method of meditation that uses a unique principle called mind subtraction. The main center is located in Nonsan, South Korea and it runs a variety of programs for youth, university students, and the general public including office workers.
